A Second Life for an Ordinary Sauna — Private Wellness Transformation in Limassol

Sometimes a sauna does not need to be replaced. It needs a second life.

For this private residence in Limassol, Cyprus, we transformed an existing ordinary sauna into a completely new wellness space — combining natural materials, panoramic glazing, Himalayan salt and modern sauna technology.

The goal was not simply to renovate the interior, but to change the way the sauna is experienced.

From an Ordinary Sauna to a New Wellness Space

The starting point was a conventional existing sauna that no longer matched the character of the surrounding property.

Instead of replacing it with another standard sauna, we decided to completely rethink the interior.

The existing space was stripped back and rebuilt around three main ideas: natural materials, a stronger connection with the outdoors and a more complete wellness experience.

Opening the Sauna to the Outside

One of the biggest changes was the installation of a large panoramic window.

The original sauna felt enclosed. Opening one of the walls completely changed the perception of the space.

The new glazing brings natural light inside and creates a visual connection with the outdoor environment. The sauna is no longer an isolated wooden room — it becomes part of the wider wellness area.

This was one of the most important architectural changes in the project.

Building It from the Inside Out

The reconstruction involved much more than changing the visible finish.

The interior was rebuilt using solid natural wood, with careful attention to the structure, insulation and detailing behind the finished surfaces.

The benches were custom-made from solid wood slabs. Instead of perfectly uniform boards, we chose pieces with natural grain and individual character.

Each slab contributes to the character of the finished interior.

Himalayan Salt Ceiling

One of the most distinctive features of the finished sauna is the ceiling made from Himalayan salt bricks.

The salt bricks are backlit from behind, creating a warm and diffused glow throughout the space.

The lighting is intentionally integrated into the architecture rather than added as a separate decorative element.

The result changes dramatically depending on the time of day — natural daylight highlights the texture of the salt, while the integrated lighting creates a completely different atmosphere in the evening.

“Second Breath”

The new sauna also introduces a dedicated “Second Breath” zone with an integrated ice compartment.

The idea was to create a natural transition between heat and cold and make the sauna ritual more complete.

After spending time in the heat, the cold element provides a completely different sensation and adds another layer to the wellness experience.

This is what makes the project more than simply a renovated sauna.

EOS EuroMax & EmoTec Cloud

At the heart of the sauna is the EOS EuroMax heater, selected for reliable performance and consistent heat.

It is paired with the EOS EmoTec Cloud control panel, providing precise and convenient control of the sauna environment.

The technology is integrated into the space without competing with the natural materials and architectural elements.

The result is a combination of traditional sauna experience and modern control technology.

A Second Life

The finished sauna is very different from the space we started with.

The panoramic window opened the interior to the outside.

Solid wood brought warmth and natural character.

The custom-made slab benches gave the space its own identity.

The Himalayan salt ceiling became both an architectural feature and a source of ambient light.

And the “Second Breath” zone introduced a dedicated heat-and-cold experience.

What was once an ordinary sauna has become a private wellness retreat — a space designed for heat, cold, relaxation and complete disconnection from everyday life.
